Cultural participation: London vs England
Londoners’ engagement with the arts is surprisingly low compared to the English average, despite all the opportunities.
They are less likely to attend or participate in the arts and are less likely to visit a heritage site. However, given the density of museums and galleries in London, many of which are free, it is unsurprising that this trend is bucked for museum or gallery visits. There is a range of institutions to visit, and a lot of money is spent in London on cultural activities, but many Londoners feel excluded by a lack of opportunity to engage with them, which is particularly driven by access problems.
