The housing crisis remains London’s biggest challenge.
Despite nearly two years of strong political alignment across our governing bodies and a sweeping set of planning reforms, just over a third of the housing delivery target was achieved last year and housing inequalities continue to worsen.

Now, with local elections around the corner and the Labour Party halfway through its term in office, time is running out to meet the capital’s 88,000 homes a year target.
The London Housing Summit 2026 is set to address these challenges, as part of our Developing London research programme and ongoing mission to find long-term solutions to London’s housing crisis.
The summit will provide a platform to share insights from the programme’s first, flagship project: ‘Delivering the Homes London Needs: What Will It Take?’, exploring the barriers to both new housing delivery and optimal use of existing stock in London.
Through presentations, panel discussions and interactive workshops, we will explore:
- How public, private and civil society organisations can work in partnership to overcome the high land costs and skills shortages that are getting in the way of building the homes London needs.
- How London’s housing system can better meet Londoners’ needs, tackling issues from overcrowding and underoccupancy through to homelessness.
Join us on Tuesday 21 April 2026 to hear from the experts, engage in participatory workshops and connect, debate and collaborate with those involved in tacking London’s housing challenge.
