Labour Party Conference 2026: Tackling London’s housing crisis – the road ahead

Developing London

10.00–11.30 29 September 2026 | Novotel Liverpool Centre | Eureka Suite | 40 Hanover Street, Liverpool, L1 4LN

Join Centre for London, in partnership with L&Q, at this year’s Labour Party Conference as we continue to explore practical solutions to the capital’s housing crisis.

More than two years on from the general election, London’s housing system is still failing people and remains one of the capital’s most pressing issues.

One in four Londoners live in poverty after housing costs. Despite strong policy ambition, delivery continues to be held back by funding pressures, viability constraints and skills shortages.

Following local election losses earlier this year, Labour has a clear message – the need for genuinely affordable housing has never been greater. The question now is how Labour can demonstrate credible progress to rebuild trust, and show it can deliver ahead of the next general election – and how working in partnership with housing associations can help unlock delivery at scale.

Our panel will bring together policymakers and industry leaders to focus on practical housing solutions, exploring:

  • What local election results reveal about housing as a political priority in London
  • How to accelerate the delivery of genuinely affordable homes
  • What reforms are needed to make London’s housing system fairer and more effective.

We will discuss how to turn ambition into action – accelerating delivery and shaping a credible, voter-focused response that meets Londoners’ needs.
