Government Affairs Director | Tarmac
Matthew Pencharz has spent the last fourteen years plus working in urban sustainability. He’s currently Government Affairs Director at Tarmac, the UK’s largest producer of construction materials, which is leading the way in decarbonising an historically high carbon sector.
He served as London’s first Deputy Mayor for Environment & Energy under Boris Johnson, where he led the Greater London Authority’s environment, energy and sustainability work, which included developing the Ultra-Low Emission Zone. Matthew has since consulted to companies delivering solutions to the environmental issues he faced while Deputy Mayor, serving as Head of Policy and Communications for Voi Technology, Europe’s leading micromobility operator and Head of Policy at the UK’s largest Energy from Waste operator, Viridor.
Matthew is particularly interested in delivering economic growth through sustainable development while driving toward Net Zero. He is also obsessed with ensuring London’s young have the opportunities he had – to stop the ladder being pulled up even higher.
