London and the North

This event has already taken place.

Why does the North/South divide matter to London? Join us for a seminar exploring London’s relationship with the North and how the two regions can build a more constructive and mutually beneficial relationship.

Centre for London will be hosting the London launch of the Northern Prosperity is National Prosperity: A Strategy for Revitalising the UK Economy, the final report from the IPPR North and the Northern Economic Futures Commission.

The Northern Economic Futures Commission was established in July 2011 to spearhead an ambitious programme of activity and research over 18 months to look at the critical issues facing the economy of the North and set out a new approach to local and regional economic policy, driven by decision-makers in the North of England.

In its final report, the commission sets out a new economic agenda for the north of England, one which seeks to place the region at the heart of the UK’s ‘rebalancing’ towards business investment and export performance.

Speakers will include:

Chair: Baroness Pinter, Former Chief Executive, the Campaign for the Preservation of Rural England

Ed Cox, Director, IPPR North and Deputy Chair, the Northern Economic Futures Commission

Ben Rogers, Founding Director Centre for London

Richard Woolhouse, Head of Tax & Fiscal Policy, Confederation of British Industry

Lord Curry, Chair, NFU Mutual
