The London Conference is a major fixture in the London public policy and political calendar ahead of the Mayoral Election in 2024. 

The programme explored how everyone in London’s community – from policymakers to business and third sector leaders – can help deliver what London needs.

Format  

Once again, we hosted a full in-person audience to the London Conference. 

The day consisted of keynote speeches, topical panel discussions and debates. We also heard from a range of community organisations about their inspiring work in the city.  And of course, there was plenty of time for networking! 

Themes: Is London in crisis?

Is London in crisis? It certainly seems like it with skyrocketing rents, hundreds of thousands of children without a proper home and the growing threat of climate breakdown.

But for all that, we still love London for its communities, its connections and culture. In this conference we ask: how do we fix what’s broken and protect what we love? What do our own politicians need to do, and what do we need from central government?

What families need

London is a young city, but it’s getting harder to raise a family here. Schools are closing in parts of the capital as families are forced out by the soaring costs of homes. Childcare is the most expensive in the country. What can we do to keep families living here and give our children the start in life that they deserve?

What businesses need

Even with London’s recent problems, our businesses drive national productivity and raise money for public services across the UK. What should we do to keep them developing and innovating? And what will happen if we don’t?

What new Londoners need

London has been a migrant city for thousands of years, and new arrivals enrich all our lives. But as national policy makes the UK less welcoming to refugees and international students, and economic change makes us less attractive to people looking for work, how do we remain an open and welcoming city?
