Responding to the latest inflation figures, Nick Bowes, Chief Executive at Centre for London said:
Today’s inflation figures are the highest in many Londoners’ working lives, and come on top of an exceptionally tough year for low income Londoners. It will be harder to get by in London, especially as the cost of living in the capital is already higher than elsewhere in the country.
Unless government take action, things will only get worse when the energy price cap rises and national insurance increases and possible hikes in public transport fares come into effect in spring. We’re calling on government to review the planned Universal Credit inflationary increase so it matches the real price pressures Londoners are facing, and to work with the energy sector to protect consumers from an enormous bill shock. ENDS Notes to Editors- Centre for London is the capital’s dedicated think tank. Our mission is to develop new solutions to London’s critical challenges and advocate for a fair and prosperous global city.
