London’s housing crisis is threatening the city’s future success.
People are being forced into poverty and out of London. We’re at risk of not being able to house the key workers we rely on.
How can we find a long-term solution for London’s housing needs? This research programme is exploring ways to create a sustainable system that delivers housing which feels like home to all Londoners.
New perspectives
To do this, we’ll need new perspectives. We all know the scale of the challenges:
- a fundamental mismatch of supply and demand
- energy inefficient housing stock
- immense pressures on social housing
To solve them, we’ll need to re-consider what is politically and practically possible.
A London-wide view
At Centre for London, we can provide a city-wide perspective on London’s unique housing challenges.
A place-based view can help us find ideas for local solutions suited to specific areas.
We’ll be looking at the different costs and benefits of increasing housebuilding and affordable housing in different parts of the city.
Aims
We’re aiming to broaden the debate about housing in London with a new voice for the city.
