Responding to the latest unemployment figures from the Office for National Statistics, Josh Cottell, Head of Research at Centre for London said:
“Today’s figures will provide some assurance that an increasing number of Londoners are finding work again. However, employment remains lower in London than across England, while the capital also has the second-highest rate of unemployment of the country’s regions.
With our economy still in a precarious position, the government and City Hall can’t afford to be complacent about the need to support people experiencing or at risk of poverty.
Given that interest rates look likely to rise again, policymakers will need to focus on helping Londoners with their housing costs, which are the highest in the country and rising fast. A failure to do so will mean more people struggle to live and work in the capital.”
