Does the London Assembly Need Reform?

This event has already taken place.

The London Assembly was set up to scrutinise the activities of the Mayor of London, but many have suggested that it does not have adequate powers to be an effective check on the Mayor’s authority. Voices questioning the Assembly’s future are growing louder, with some suggesting that it needs to be radically strengthened if it is to justify its position, or else  dissolved entirely, its functions taken on by another body.

Centre for London brings together Assembly Members, those who helped the Assembly’s design, and its critics as we ask: Does the London Assembly need reform?
